indie acoustic rock music in los angeles

Anyone looking for some great new indie acoustic rock music should check out original Los Angeles singer/songwriter John Clinebell. In the same vein as Elliott Smith, Paolo Nutini, M. Ward, Joseph McArthur, and other popular indie artists, John's down-to-earth organic rock music and soulful vocals will keep you hitting the rewind button on your iPod. "Bailey" is a perfect example of smooth vocal texturing over a bed of fuzzy warm electric guitars; the happiest song on John's debut release, Stomping Grounds, definitely conveys that vibe through John Wolf's indie production of it. "The End" is another example of pop music that's slightly off-center, but in an interesting way; the repetitive acoustic arpeggios set the groundwork for a haunting and soaring vocal performance. There are actually 12 vocals layered on "The End," and often all 12 of them are going off at once, creating a smooth fullness and adding to the emotional detachment of a piece that could otherwise get muddied in its sentiments.
